Jerusalem – A perfect time to visit the old city

Jerusalem Night Spectacular Show

Jerusalem Night Spectacular Show

As an addict of Tel Aviv, getting me out of the city is usually no easy feat. There is so much going on in ‘the city that never sleeps’ that I see very little need to go further than my number 4 bus in search of adventure.

Last night however, I ventured up to Jerusalem for the evening.  Its easy to get there, the bus is less than an hour and I have to admit I had a truly wonderful time.  In fact I have quitely made this my new years resolution .. to spread my wings just that little bit further in the holyland in the year ahead.

Our visit to the old city in Jerusalem was to watch a show being presented at the Tower Of David  called ‘The Night Spectacular’. Seeing the tower Of David lit up at night is a magnificent sight in itself, but the light show just took our breath away, it was absolutely brilliant!!

Based on the history of Jerusalem, the story is very simple with no scholarly aspect to it, but the visual display offered is breathtakingly beautiful. The talents involved in creating this spectacular show  deserves nothing less than 10 out of 10.

And with Yom Kipur, the most important day in the jewish calendar just around the corner, there is no better time to take a visit to Jerusalem. The old city  is alive and bustling with both local and international folk coming to the Koitel( western wall) to pray. The atmosphere is quite divine and a real sense of humbleness fills the air.  It was a great pleasure to walk the cobbled streets of the old city, visit the markets and   absorb the unique and special atmosphere.

Many Cafes and Restaraunts are promoting fabulous deals for evening meals. We ate at Black,  a popular hamburger restaurant with a deal of a 220gm burger and fries for 35 nis. Taxis are plentiful so getting back to the bus station for the ride home is easy.

The Night spectacular show runs until the 19th October. Tickets are 50 nis and can be ordered either by phoning 02 6265333 (english speaking)  or online at  http://towerofdavid.org.il/eng/upload/events/new.html

A highly reccommended evening out and great way to experience Jerusalem.
